Desiree Acres Bassets
Breeding AKC
Champion Basset Hounds
since 1971

~ Ho! Ho! Ho! ~
Best Wishes to all for a Happy Holiday

OUR BEGINNING
My
involvement
with basset hounds began
in 1971 when my mother Kati
Netzley and
I (Mary) started breeding and showing under the Desiree Acres
Kennel name.
"Old timer"
basseteers
may remember some of our champions, they are still in the pedigrees of
dogs being shown today.
In those days our dogs went back to the old
Santana
Mandevelle bloodlines, and though we now breed on a very
limited basis, we still admire and strive to produce dogs with the
size, bone,
soundness,
substance, type and temperament we fell in love with and feel is so
important
to this breed. |

I
have always believed that my involvement with
these
wonderful dogs has
brought me all of the best things in
my life,
including
my husband Ron. We met in
1984 at the
Basset
Hound Club (BHCSC)
Christmas party --
and celebrated
our 24th wedding anniversary
in May.
Ron, an AKC licensed judge for bassets, will be judging
basset specialties this
year in Wisconsin and Texas. He will soon be getting his provisional
license for dachshunds.

his dog Goofy (Goofy's Hopeful Love CD) winning their first leg in
obedience at the Beverly Hills
Kennel Club Show

Our
hounds were
beautiful, sound and healthy, but alas, not
very
fertile.
After having our last
bitch spayed in 1996, we purchased Cecil and
Hooty from Jan Kano of Arrowhead Bassets. We had seen
their sire,
Ch. Woodhaven's Wallstreet CDX (Wilson), finish his championship at the
BHCSC Specialty the year before and very much admired his size, type
and
style.
We were not
disappointed -- Ch Arrowheads St.
Cecil went on to become the
BHCSC 1997 and 1998 Dog
of
The Year & Stud Dog of the Year. |

OUR PRESENT HOUNDS
In 2001
we decided to
breed our first litter since
1989,
and went into partnership with our friend Amy Solomon, who co-owned a
Cecil
daughter, Ch.
Symphony's All that Jazz (otherwise
known as Odie). As a sire we chose Ch. Rebelglen's Beamer,
a top producing stud bred/owned by Jo NewMeyer, who still carries
some of the
old Oranpark, Santana Mendevelle and Desiree Acres bloodlines. Ron and
I raised Odie's litter of 6 puppies and had the
most fun we have had since we can remember. We kept a male and female: |
| Foster and
Scout |

| Ch. Desiree Acres
Foster |
Ch. Desiree Acres
Scout |
| Totally devoted
to each other, at 7 weeks --- and 7 years |
| This
litter was truly a breeder's dream come true, with 4 of the six puppies
earning thier championships ~ with Specialty wins, multi - 5 point
major wins, Best of Breed and Best Opp wins, and ALL breeder owner handled. |

OUR
FUTURE
A
European
Influence
In 2002
we began importing bloodlines from Europe, first from Hollandheim, then
from
Swede
Sun. These beautiful girls have already brought a
very
positive influence to
our
life and our breeding program.
|
|
Ch.English
Rose V.Hollandheim "Ziggy"
(Ch. Norris V Hollandheim X Ch. Karipat
Ziggi Zig)
We have long
admired Carla
Gerber's
Hollandheim
dogs in Holland, (and
more recently France) having fallen
in love with
the photos of her dogs on
her web site. Our particular favorite was her top producing bitch
Ch.
Karipat Ziggi Zig.
A dream became a
reality when we were
able
to import one
of her beautiful
daughters. We call our girl "Ziggy" in
honor of her mother.
Ziggy is the
grandmother of our new litter~
|
The
pretty Dutch girl with the
English
name,
we call her
Ziggy
|

We call her Qarlie (which rhymes with "Harley")
or
just
"The Divine Miss Q"
|
Ch. Swede Sun's
Qarla
"Qarlie"
(pronounced Car-lee)
(Swede Sun's Nigel X Tina Turner V
Grunsven)
In 2007 we imported
another beautiful girl from Europe, this time from Paula
Sunbring's top
winning Swede
Sun Kennel.
Qarlie is
the 1st
Swede Sun basset to come to America AND she has been doing
some TOP
Winning of her own!!!
Click on her photo to see some current photos or our "Little Swedish
Girl"
Qarlie is
co-owned
by Jeffie and Steve Casey.
|
2009 has been a
Great Year!
|
Qarlie
is a BRAND NEW
CHAMPION,
Phoebe, Snickers and
Zeke
from Hollandheim
are already making
thier mark in the
showring ...
We are already looking forward to an exciting 2010
